Valley

The area of the roof where the two sloping surfaces meet. Shaped like a "V", water runs off a roof at the valley.

Vapor Barrier

Typically consisting of plastic sheeting, it is installed between the drywall and insulation in exterior walls. It helps to prevent the movement of water and build up of condensation in walls.

Veneer

Very thin sheets of wood or extremely thin slices of brick or stone.

Vent

A duct or pipe that carries air or gasses to the outside of the home.

Voltage

A term used to define the measure of electric potential in an electrical line. Most homes have 110 volt power lines for standard lighting and 220 volt lines for the stove, hot water heater and dryer.
