Keeper

The metal latch plate found in a door frame into which the doorknob plunger latches.

Keyless

A light fixture often made of plastic or porcelain that operates by a pull string. These fixtures are most commonly used in basements, attics, closets or crawl spaces.

Kilowatt

A kilowatt is one thousand watts. A kilowatt hour is the base unit for measuring electrical consumption.

King Stud

The vertical frame lumber on either side of a door or window opening. These boards run continuously from the bottom sole plate to the top plate.

Knockdown

A splattered texture applied to a surface. The surface is then troweled to achieve a particular finish. Can be used on drywall interior walls and ceilings, pool decks and porches. Also describes a type of exterior wall stucco finish.
